Kaieteur News – The new fire stations set for Charity in Region Two and Wisroc in Region 10 would cost the government approximately $283,168,626 to construct.
Following the bidding process through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), the agency revealed on its website that contractor Gavko Construction and Supplies Inc. have been awarded the $144,887,532 contract to build the station in Charity, while Orin’s Supreme Enterprise has won the contract to build the station at Wisroc for $138,281,094.
This year the government noted that it plans on building a number of new fire stations across various areas in the country. Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh had said in this year’s budget presentation that the government has always been committed to building the capacity of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) to discharge their important mandate. More recent times have, however, reiterated how important it is for GFS to be in a state of constant readiness to respond to any threat of loss of property or endangerment of person.
Hence, the government has been upgrading the physical facilities of the Fire Service. Singh went onto to state that $545 million was expended in 2023 for infrastructural and maintenance works at fire stations in Leonora, Ogle and Wales as well as the Fire Service Headquarters at Durban Park.
Kaieteur News understands that this year, infrastructural investments include the completion of the Diamond Fire Station, construction of additional fire stations at Charity, Parika, Soesdyke and Wisburg as well as the extension and rehabilitation of fire stations in Linden, Rose Hall and Timehri. A total of $572.8 million has been allocated for this among other projects.
