Kaieteur News – Three children drowned on Tuesday after reportedly swimming in a ‘fish pond’ at Massara Village, North Rupununi, Region Nine.
The children have been identified as Michelle Jeffrey, a Grade One student; Nia Jeffrey, a Grade Two student; and Alicia Jeffrey, a Grade Four student. The children, all girls are aged 5, 6 and 8
Reports are that Michelle and Alicia are sisters and Nia is their cousin.
Commander of Regional Police Division #9, Senior Superintendent Raphael Rose, has confirmed the tragedy.
Up press time, ranks were still in the remote village conducting investigations. The Commander said that he is awaiting additional details on the drowning.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News are that the children were swimming when they suddenly went under the water and failed to resurface.
Their bodies were later retrieved from the river.
