Kindly allow me some space in your newspaper for this letter.
I write to highlight a serious water problem we have in the Albion/Fyrish area that is of grave concern to the residents of these communities.
For years we have been suffering from poor quality of water that we were getting from the Fyrish well which is in the middle of the Fyrish cemetery. After years of writing to the press by yours truly and complaints by residents to GWI Chesney office about the poor quality of water we were getting, finally GWI drill a new well at Chesney Front South,#4 dam.
But guess what, when they commissioned the well sometime late last year, they still connect that well with the Fyrish well and the result is we continue to get poor quality of water. And Editor, when I said poor quality of water, I mean it has heavy rust, serious iron content and dust particles that can be seen in a glass of water. Infact, all those of us who have filters after a week of putting on a new catridge it turns into a black and green colour. Editor, the water we are getting is not good for human consumption and on behalf of the residents of my area, I would like to take this apportunity to appeal to my good friend, the CEO of GWI Mr. Sheik Baksh to please come and see for himself the quality of water we are getting. As he mentioned sometime last year, GWI is supplying 90% of the country with treated water, so I am kindly asking him to please provide Albion/Fyrish with treated water also. After all, there is already a water treatment plant at Rose Hall Town that is supplying treated water up to Nigg, so please connect us to that treatment plant so that we can also enjoy pure, clean treated water. I know you are a man of action, because I interacted with you when you were the Minister of Housing and Water and I know you listen to the cry of the people.
Thanking you in anticipation and hope to hear from you very soon.
Yours Faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus
