Kaieteur Sports – A good all-round show from the Jamaica ladies saw them topple Guyana by a 5-wicket margin during last evening’s match under lights at Warner Park, St. Kitts.
Guyana made 107-7 from 20 overs batting first. Captain Shemaine Campbell continued her form from the 50-Over, hitting 33 while Mandy Mangru led the scorers with a solid 36.
Jamaica captain Stafanie Taylor finished her spell with figures of 2-12 while pacer Chinelle Henry grabbed 2-22 along with spinner Vanessa Watts (1-16) and Neisha-Ann Waisome (1-18).
Jamaica chasing a gettable target, almost cruised to their final score of 108-5 thanks to Rashada Williams stroking 42 (5×4) and Taylor who followed up her wickets with 33 off 21 (6×4).
Williams and Taylor put on a half-century stand which practically guided Jamaica home before both top scorers fell to the guile of Leg-spinner, Niya Latchman (2-15).
By the time the partnership was broken and the pair departed, Jamaica were less than 15 runs away from victory and eventually got there despite a few more wickets going down in the process.
Spinner Sheneta Grimmond (2-24) and Plaffiana Millington (1-23), were the other wicket-takers for Guyana.
Playing under lights, the Guyanese were two wickets down after losing openers Shabika Gajnabi (13) and Sheneta Grimmond (3).
Mangru and Campbell then took Guyana to 59-2 at the halfway point and then immediately stepped on the gas as they found the ropes on a few occasions.
Taylor pulled things back with two big wickets, first bowling Mangru in the 16th over followed by Cherry-Ann Fraser (5).
Henry then cleaned up Ashmini Munisar’s stumps for just 2 runs while Kycia Schultz (3) was run out a few balls later, bringing the innings to an end.
