Kaieteur News – Step into Maliyah’s Kitchen, where every dish tells a story of passion, dedication, and the vibrant flavors of Guyana. In an exclusive interview with Alyssa Singh, the owner of Maliyah’s Kitchen, she shared the origins of this culinary venture and the driving force behind its success.
Established in June 2020, Maliyah’s Kitchen was born out of Singh’s passion for cooking and her desire to fill a gap in the marketplace.
“I love being in the kitchen and trying new things,” Singh explains. “I saw the need for such products in the marketplace and decided to turn my passion into a business.”
Since its inception, Maliyah’s Kitchen has taught Singh the importance of persistence and focus. “To be persistent in whatever goal you set out to achieve, keep looking straight ahead and don’t lose focus,” she advises.
As a mother of three, the businesswoman faced the challenge of balancing entrepreneurship with family responsibilities.
“Being a mother of three, it was difficult to go out and seek employment,” she shares. “Hence, it encouraged me to try to do something at home and still find time for my kids.” The COVID-19 pandemic provided the opportunity to focus on building the business while spending time with family.
Looking ahead, her vision for Maliyah’s Kitchen is to expand. “And increase production to have the products in all 10 of the administrative regions, and also to export to fellow Caricom countries,” she reveals.
Maliyah’s Kitchen delights customers with a diverse menu featuring Tasty Mithai, Sal Sev (Chicken Foot), Milk Powder Fudge, Delicious Black Cake, and Cross Buns. While the latter two are seasonal, customers can place orders for fulfillment.
The Sal Sev (Chicken Foot) and Milk Powder Fudge stand out as the most popular items on Maliyah’s Kitchen menu, drawing patrons back for more with their delectable flavors.
Maliyah’s Kitchen actively participates in events such as the Agri Investment Forum, both locally and regionally, and hosts sampling sessions at various locations including Massy’s, DSL, and markets days.
Conveniently located on Pike Street Kitty, Maliyah’s Kitchen operates from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, providing customers with freshly prepared culinary delights.
Originally from West Coast Berbice, the entrepreneur moved to Georgetown with her husband, Mark Singh, whom she co-owns Maliyah’s Kitchen with.
The duo have been married for 19 years and shared that the name “Maliyah” is a blend of their daughters’ names, Marlisa and Aaliyah. The couple’s dedication to building the business stems from her desire to create a legacy for her children.
Maliyah’s Kitchen isn’t just about food; it’s about family, community, and the pursuit of culinary excellence. As the Singhs continue to expand their reach and offerings, they remain committed to providing customers with the highest quality products and service, ensuring that the legacy of Maliyah’s Kitchen lives on for generations to come.
