BREAKING NEWS – Security Guard shot dead during robbery at Vreed-en-Hoop supermarket
Kaieteur News – A security was Monday afternoon shot dead during a robbery at a Chinese Supermarket at ‘F’ New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Dead, Paul Waterman
Dead is Paul Waterman an employee with Sheriff Security and a resident of Tushen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). Police said that around 15:00hrs three bandits armed with handguns invaded the supermarket and held Waterman at gunpoint along with the supermarket’s proprietor Ping Xian Lin, and his wife Li Yan Ohen. While robbing the supermarket of an undisclosed amount of cash, a quantity of Digicel and GTT phone cards, a cellphone and a DVR, a scuffle ensued between Waterman and one of the bandits.
The bandit shot Waterman and he fell to the ground. The bandit then took away his firearm and cellphone before helping his accomplices to finish off the robbery. Together they escaped by running north through Evergreen Street towards Best Village. The security guard was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. One .32 spent shell was found at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
