Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I would like to comment on Mr. Kit Nascimento ‘s letter on Gary Best’s positions on the Venezuela/Guyana situation. As I have previously mentioned, I see Nascimento as a classic political propagandist willing to serve whichever master he can latch onto and his views all reflect the thoughts of his employers . The Argyle agreements were essential for Guyana and the opposition should have attended and made their presence felt-they didn’t and P.M. Ralph Gonsalves, a supplicant of Maduro, showed his true colours when he took part in a photo shoot clearly showing Essequibo as a part of Venezuela;
Guyanese will never forgive Gonsalves for his betrayal of our sovereignty and if APNU was present, they would have exposed his treachery. Neither Best nor Nascimento talks about Gonsalves but the Antiguan ambassador to the UN, Ron Sanders, is quite explicit in his defence. of P.M. Gonsalves with all of his weak arguments in K.N. recently, especially harmful since Sanders is a born Guyanese. Gonsalves, unlike the Ron Sanders glowing portrayal, has aligned his country ideologically and economically with Maduro; he cannot be trusted with defending our land.
Editor, even though I part ways with Nascimento on almost everything, I would like to agree with everything he states in his letter, especially in relation to Britain and the USA, in dealing with the Maduro threat. Mr. Best should step up along with other opposition personnel, to support the government’s efforts to protect Essequibo through diplomacy and unity of all Guyanese on this issue and, as a former GDF head, his contrary comments should have been kept to himself.
Maduo is a communist dictator hell-bent on acquiring our land and whichever government is in power in Guyana should be soundly supported on this issue, no matter what, as long as that government is not selling out to Maduro, like P.M. Ralph Gonsalves does.
Editor, the general public in Guyana should remember that when my godfather, President Forbes Burnham told Venezuela “not a blade of grass”, the opposition, led by my father, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, supported the PNC government in that period of our history-therefore stand up for Guyana, Mr. Gary Best!
Yours sincerely,
Cheddi (Joey)Jagan(Jr.)
