Kaieteur Sports – Wakenaam/Leguan combined won the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) / Leon Silas U15 40-over tournament which concluded recently.
The Islanders had little hiccups winning the tournament as they played unbeaten throughout.
In their first game at Affiance No. 1 ground on the Essequibo Coast, Wakenaam/ Leguan Combined beat East Bank Essequibo/Bartica Combined by three runs. Batting first, Wakenaam/Leguan Combined made 120-7 off their reduced quota of 30 overs. Opener Justin Dowlin scored 32 and Aarav Sukram made 29. Timothy Burton claimed 4-22 and Shazim Mohamed 2-25. East Bank Essequibo/ Bartica Combined responded with 117 all out in 25 overs. Francis Gurahoo struck 52 and Elisha Ramdat 16. Left arm spinner Jonathan Barry picked up three wickets and leg spinner Bomesh Lall two.
South Essequibo beat East Bank Essequibo/Bartica Combined at the Wakenaam Community Center ground.
In the second round at Maria’s Pleasure ground in Wakenaam, Wakenaam/Leguan Combined defeated South Essequibo by six wickets. South Essequibo took first strike and posted 166-7 in their reduced 30 overs. Eion Benjamin made 38 and Otis Roberts 23. Ethan Silas captured 3-38 and Bomesh Lall 2-26.
Wakenaam/Leguan Combined responded with 168-4 in 30 overs. Justin Dowlin slammed 52 and Jeremiah Melville struck 51.
North Essequibo /Pomeroon Combined beat South Essequibo at Affiance No. 1 ground in another fixture.
In the final round game played at Leguan, Wakenaam/Leguan Combined beat North Essequibo/Pomeroon Combined by six runs. Wakenaam/Leguan Combined batted first and made 81-7 from their reduced 15 overs. Bomesh Lall scored 23 and Jeremiah Melville got 14. Eldon Lewis claimed 3-13. North Essequibo/Pomeroon Combined responded with 75-7 in 15 overs. Lewis amde 23 as Jonathan Barry took 2-13.
Coach of the Wakenaam/Leguan Combined team Nandkishore Andrews expressed gratitude to the sponsor Leon Silas an overseas based Guyanese and is calling on the business community to support the game in the county.
