Kaieteur Sports – The Senior Development Boxing Championship organised by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) reached an exhilarating conclusion, captivating a packed National Gymnasium audience on a thrilling Saturday evening. The Police Boxing gym emerged as a dominant force, with Emmanuel Sancho clinching the prestigious Best Boxer award in the elite division, while Morlando Cameron from the Rose Hall Town Jammers (RHTJ) Boxing gym claimed the youth Best Boxer award.
The final night of the championship showcased an intense lineup of bouts, forming a compelling prelude to the 2024 Paris Games. This preparatory card serves as a crucial pathway for athletes aiming to qualify for the upcoming Olympics. The senior championship concluded with eleven exciting bouts, highlighted by Olympian Keevin Allicock’s flawless performance in the Lightweight 58-60kg final. Allicock’s remarkable footwork and extraordinary punching speed proved insurmountable for his opponent, Septon Barton of the Forgotten Youth Foundation boxing gym. Barton succumbed early in the second round, earning Allicock another gold medal in the senior competition.
An additional spectacle of the evening was the captivating exhibition match between the Jackman sisters, Abiola and Alesha. The siblings engaged in a spirited contest, showcasing their skills and determination. Morlando Cameron continued to showcase his prowess in the Youth 61-63.5kg weight class final, securing a win on points against gymmate Raheem Peters. Emmanuel Sancho of the Police Boxing gym secured his second victory against GDF’s Ronnel Captain in the Welterweight division, with Captain opting to abandon the contest 2 minutes and 6 seconds into the third round.
Ronaldo Sutton of GDF triumphed in the Minimumweight 46-48kg division final, defeating Richard Sabratee of FYF. Julian Clarke secured the Bantamweight 52-54kg title over Kevin Isaac of POL, while Clifton Graham of POL emerged victorious in the Light Middleweight 68-71kg final against Mark Crawford. Hullman Bovel of the Police claimed the Cruiserweight title from Quincie Boyce of GDF, and Emanuel Pompey secured the Super Heavyweight title as Troy Glasgow of GDF abandoned the contest at the start of the second round.
Daniel Dehnert and Colin Lewis also earned gold medals in the respective youth 64-67kg and Junior Welterweight finals as their opponents failed to make an appearance on the final night of the championship.
