Kaieteur News – A wanted man was on Sunday morning shot to his right foot by police after he reportedly attacked the ranks with a knife.
Police identified the man as Denzil Thomas called “Eggie.” He was wanted for a series of criminal offences including simple larceny, larceny from the person, assault and break-and-enter-and larceny.
Police received information that Thomas was at Plastic Bag Street, Rose Hall Town. Ranks were sent to the location around 06:00hrs and found him lying in a yard.
The lawmen attempted to arrest him but he resisted and started behaving disorderly.
“…He attempted to relieve one of the ranks of his service firearm from his waist,” police said. When that did not work, he attacked one of the policemen with a knife. Police warned him to desist but he refused to listen and the ranks subsequently shot him.
Thomas was hit in the right foot and he fell to the ground and police relieved him of the knife and placed him in handcuffs.
Police picked up Thomas and took him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor and discharged. According to police the bullet exited his foot.
He was placed in custody at the Whim Police Station.
