Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The universe sets it in a way that tells us that we will be humbled no matter what. We could not carry ourselves when we enter this earth and we are not allowed to carry ourselves when we are leaving. That is a set script made in stone that cannot change. Everything in between is a bonus and a make believe that we own and control. We came with nothing and we shall leave with nothing.
The mansions, luxury cars, gold, platinum and diamonds. The billions, private planes and yachts; the concubines and even the wives are not permanently ours. Everything is for a part of time. The only property you will have forever is the coffin or casket they drop you down in a tiny space of dirt. That is our own for eternity. And while you are there, someone else young and virile enjoying everything you couldn’t take with you.
Some kill, rob, persecute and terrorise others. Some hate without a reason. Some wear a crown; some have the best gowns and feasts and believe they are immortal. Not long after, young people, after a night out, walk through the darkest cemetery and ‘wee wee’ on your tomb. This is a temporary journey and while here your duty is to make it better for others; to leave this plane better for the visitors passing through after.
Keep shouting and showing off that you’re better than everyone else. Not even the body you have is your own. It disintegrates into dust; into nothingness.
Why be pompous? Why be arrogant and selfish? Why the haughtiness? No one is better than anyone. It is make believe. We are destined to be vaporous. We are vapours. Be humble. Look again and see who and what we really are because I already see through you.
Give thanks for the things that matter. The sunshine and the rain; health and strength. The breath of life. The smile that warms your day and your daily bread. Give thanks that you can rise to see another day and for the children’s laughter and the birds that sing from the trees above your head.
Sincerely,
Norman Browne
