My experience at City Hall last Friday (Jan 12) to pay rates was pleasantly different from the headline of the article of complaining residents (SN Jan 17).
There were two sets of comfortable seating arrangements in place- one for senior citizens and the other for those not considered this category of citizens. There were also two cashiers for the respective sets of citizens. All citizens were directed by officials present to which seating arrangement they should occupy. I was directed to the senior citizens seating section.
While, the number of senior citizens was not large as the other section, and my section moved efficiently (I was out of there within forty-five minutes), from observations, the movement of the other section was not as fast or smooth, or so it seemed, as residents moved from chair to chair in order to get to the top of the line. The sloth in completing a transaction might be due to a number of factors including some citizens did not have ready information when asked by the cashier. At this peak time more cashiers could be considered.
Thirty minutes to an hour, it was reported, it took to be able to complete rates payment transaction. This is better than the time it took last December to get the pension cash grant. Is City Hall’s MMG payment option still operational? If it is why is it not plugged as a payment mode option?
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
