Waterfalls Magazine – Amelia Persaud embarked on her entrepreneurial journey with a simple yet profound motivation: to make party supplies accessible and affordable. Tired of the hassle of traveling to Georgetown for her party needs, Persaud saw an opportunity to fill a void in the market on the East Coast of Demerara. Her online store, ‘Party Prime’, was born out of a desire to offer cost-effective alternatives without compromising on quality.
During an interview with The Waterfalls, Amelia shared that in a saturated market, ‘Party Prime’ distinguishes itself through key principles of affordability, customer service, quality products and uniqueness.
“One of the main things that set my business apart from others is that it is affordable for everyone. Customers are amazed when they come by and grab whatever they need and realize they don’t have to break their pockets for party supplies.”
Amelia added, “Just because party supplies are either disposable or reusable doesn’t mean they need to be of poor quality.”
Launching ‘Party Prime’ came with its set of challenges. The balance between trendy, classic, and seasonal items posed a significant hurdle. However, Amelia navigated these challenges with patience and strategic marketing effort to overcome the variation in demand.
“For the seasonable aspect, you have to know that after the seasonal period, for example, Christmas, you will have items remaining that must be stored away. Sometimes, it can be discouraging to have a small part of your investment tucked away, but it’s a risk party stores have to take because you have to cater to the public and what is in demand.”
To stay ahead, Amelia said that she consistently engages with her audience through social media.
Regular posts, interactive stories, and customer feedback play a pivotal role in shaping Party Prime’s offerings.
The young business owner shared, “For the trendy aspect…When the Barbie movie came out, everything was pink and had to be Barbie-themed, and while this was great for party stores, other themes that were just as popular became slow-selling.”
Amelia shared that the highlight of ‘Party Prime’s’ journey so far has been Mother’s Day 2023. Selling over 150 balloon sets in just a few hours, both online and walk-in customers flooded the store.
From her experience, Amelia said that people also prefer intimate gatherings which results to small scale purchasing.
As her business evolves, Amelia shared that one noticeable shift she have saw in the supply industry is that persons are becoming more environmentally aware. “This resulted in a demand for eco-friendly and biodegradable items. This is the same for compostable decorations and even reusable items.”
Recognizing the global trend towards sustainability, ‘Party Prime’ actively incorporates eco-friendly products into its inventory. Amelia ensures that the suppliers she collaborates with adhere to environmentally conscious practices, meeting the rising demand for biodegradable and compostable party supplies.
As ‘Party Prime’ continues to thrive, Amelia envisions a future with multiple locations and an expanded inventory. Her goal is to cater to a broader audience, meeting the diverse needs of her growing customer base.
Amelia hails from a business-oriented background. Growing up in a family of business owners, her journey from a travel consultant to the founder of Party Prime is a testament to her dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.
For aspiring women entrepreneurs, especially in the party supply industry, Amelia offers sage advice. She said passion, commitment, and resilience are the cornerstones of success.
“Don’t be afraid to start somewhere. Your financial means may be small, but it grows over time…Celebrate your small wins because starting a business involves lots of highs and lows, and the smallest achievements will keep you motivated for the next.”
Amelia’s ongoing efforts to reshape the party supply experience serve as an inspiring tale for budding entrepreneurs. Her journey exemplifies the transformative influence of passion, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of one’s aspirations.
“I have gained so much experience, met many wonderful people, and had many challenges, but I am all in for the long haul. I am deeply proud to say I, Amelia Persaud, am the owner of ‘Party Prime’.”
