Kaieteur Sports – Ramesh Chattergoon slammed a brilliant 104 for Devonshire Castle Sports Club but his innings went in vain as Hibernia defeated his team by three wickets last Sunday at Reliance Sports ground in the continuation of the Essequibo Softball Cricket League (ESCL) Over-40, T20 competition.
The right-handed Chattergoon hit five sixes and six fours as Devonshire Castle Sports Club tallied up an inadequate 220-4 from the 20-overs.
Hibernia, in reply, reached 225-7 with 12 balls remaining.
Apart from Chattergoon’s landmark, the consistent Vishwanauth Lall scored a fine 48 as Fizul Mohammed grabbed 2-38 from three overs.
At the same venue earlier in the day, Essequibo Legends defeated Reliance Sports Club by a convincing eight-wicket margin.
Reliance Sports Club reached a competitive 187-4 at the expiration of the 20-overs while Essequibo Legends responded with 189-2 in the 17th over.
Giddel Abrams led the way for the victorious combination with an attractive, unbeaten 72 which was laced with four sixes and three fours, while Tameshwar Sancharie showed impressive form too by knocking 55.
For Reliance Sports Club, the experienced Sunil Lall top-scored with 66 and Dhanny Deodath chipped in with 44. Omeshwar Lall and Linden Headley collected two wickets apiece.
At Queenstown venue, Invaders Masters got the better of Queenstown Tigers by 10 runs in a thrilling encounter.
Invaders piled on a challenging 187-3 from the 20-overs while the hosts replied with 177-8 when the 20-overs ran out.
Mohammed Alie hit a cameo 57 for Invaders while Gopaul Deen supported with a vital 32 as Motielall Deepnarine bagged 3-26 in his four-overs and Sergie Ferguson snatched 2-23 (4).
When Queenstown Tigers batted, Deepnarine returned with the bat to hit 65 while Ferguson
also exhibited his all-round prowess by making a fighting 41. Richie Bishop and Alie took 3-28 and 2-41 respectively.
And at Hibernia facility, Caribbean Cricket Club beat Untouchables by three runs in another riveting fixture.
Caribbean Cricket Club compiled a respectable 220-6 off the 20-overs while Untouchables agonizingly left at 217-9 when the 20-overs expired.
R. Dey offered a fight with 51 while S. Sunil scored 31 as star-player Patrick Rooplall picked up 4-18 in his four overs.
For Caribbean Cricket Club, Eshwar Singh struck an impressive 60 and 56 from Yaseer Mohammed as Gary Ragnauth captured 2-24 off three tidy overs.
Meanwhile, the eight-team, round-robin competition is slated to continue this Sunday with four more matches. The final is billed for later this month. The tournament is being sponsored by Bhiska Taxi Service and organized by the League and Caribbean Cricket Club. Monetary and trophy prizes are up for grabs.
