Kaieteur Sports – The long rivalry between Berbice powerhouses Albion Community Center Cricket Club and the Rose Hall Town NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour team would enter a new chapter when the two teams meet in the final of the BCB/Ivan Madray T20 cricket tournament. The final would be played at the popular Number 69 Vikings ground in the Upper Corentyne area.
Albion reached the final of the tournament after defeating Port Mourant by 35 runs at the Port Mourant ground after the home team collapsed, losing their last nine wickets for 38 runs after being well set at 58 for 1 chasing 131 for victory from 20 overs.
Batting first, Albion were restricted to 131 for eight from their allotted 20 overs with Damien Cecil and test player Veerasammy Permaul each top scoring with 33, while Kevin Umrao 13, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Anthony Bramble with 10 also added crucial runs. Bowling for Port Mourant Cricket Club, Salim Khan took 3 for 30 from 4 overs, Madhan Budhram 2 for 21 from 4 overs and Vicky Samaroo 1 for 13.
Port Mourant openers Rampertab and Rampersaud Ramnath give the home team a flying start with an enterprising start of 58 in nine overs before Rampersaud was unnecessarily run out for a well played 28. The elder Rampertab went on to score an attractive 45 before he was caught off the bowling of Permaul. Apart from Madhan Budhram 13, no other Port Mourant Batsmen reached double figures in the disappointing batting display. Bowling for Albion, Permaul took 4 for 40 from 4 overs, Leon Cecil 3 for 18 from 4 overs, Afraz Budhoo 2 for 8 and Devendra Bishoo 1 for 9 from three over.
The final is expected to be an exciting affair with players like Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Clinton Pestano, Jonathan Rampersaud, Sylus Tyndall, Eon Hooper playing for Rose Hall Town, while Albion’s effort will be spearheaded by Veerasammy Permaul, Adrian Sukhwa, Leon Cecil, Afraz Budhoo and Anthony Bramble.
