The writer of the letter who thought little back then when he paid to obtain a driver’s licence without doing the practical test (KN Dec 31), seems suddenly and boldly overtaken with guilt and remorse at the fraudulent actions of himself and friends.
The daily road carnage must have brought on this realization that in so doing he and friends may have contributed, in some way, to the present situation.
Finding the courage to now own up for a wrong might seem commendable, but it does not change the fact of knowingly being part of a system which promoted, aided and abetted a wrong, makes the writer complicit as the corrupt police officer from the Vigilance Police Station, who arranged everything. So said, so done.

Shamshun Mohamed
