Kaieteur Sports – The quarterfinals of this year’s Upper Demerara Football Association’s (UDFA) Christmas inter club championship will be contested on Wednesday at the Retrieve Hard Court in Linden.
With $1M at stake for the winners the clubs have been jostling to reach the knockout stage of the tournament.
Come Wednesday the quarterfinals will see Aroiama facing Botafago, Milerock clashing with Silver Sattas, Topp XX clashing with Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection, and Coomacka FC tackling Capital FC.
Group A qualifiers were Botafago, who finished on seven points from two wins and one draw to top Group A, ahead of Milerock who had a similar record but Botafago with a better goal difference emerged as the top club. The two clubs in that group eliminated were Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Net Rockers.
Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection and Comacka are the teams coming out from Group B, as Winners Connection had nine points from three wins, while Coomacka had two wins and one loss for six points and Hi Stars and Fearless were knocked out.
Group C was led by Capital FC who finished ahead of Topp XX to be the teams qualifying. Capital FC had three wins for nine points while Topp XX had six points after winning two and losing one. Eagles United and Golden Stars were the teams eliminated.
Group D had only three clubs as against four in the other three groups. Silver Shattas and Aroiama made it to the knockout stage as Shattas won both their matches, Aroiama won one and lost the other, but Blueberry Hill failed to win and were knocked out.
