Waterfalls Magazine – The Rotary Club of Georgetown Central [RCGC] as it continues to observe its 40th Anniversary celebrated the spirit of the season by hosting a heartwarming Christmas party for children participating in its West Ruimveldt Literacy Project on Friday December 15.
The event brought together members of the community, volunteers, and Rotary and Rotaract Club members to create a festive and memorable experience for the children.
The Christmas party, organized by the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central in collaboration with its Youth Arm – The Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central, featured a lively atmosphere filled with laughter, joy, and holiday spirit. Attendees enjoyed an array of activities, including interactive games, Christmas tree decorating, and special awards for children who performed creditably during the term – all carefully planned to make the occasion magical for the children in attendance. The afternoon commenced with prayer, biblical storytelling and the children were treated to snacks and drinks, gift distribution, and other goodies such as muffins, sweets and a meal.
Club members, adorned in festive attire, worked diligently to ensure the success of the event. Through the generous support of members and corporate and community sponsors, RCGC was able to provide each child with a gift, creating moments of delight and excitement.
“We believe in the power of community and the joy that comes from giving,” said Mr. Peter Pompey, Presidentof the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central. “Our Christmas initiative is a reflection of our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged children during this festive season. It’s our way of bringing the spirit of Christmas to every corner of our community.”
RCGC extends gratitude to all the volunteers, sponsors, and community members who contributed to making the Christmas party a resounding success. The event exemplifies the Rotary Club’s mission of service and its dedication to creating positive, lasting impacts on the lives of those it serves. RCGC is extremely appreciative of the support received from corporate partners, in particular Tropical Shipping, for its support to the club’s projects being undertaken in the areas of literacy and youth development.
The Guyana Country Manager of Tropical Shipping Mrs. Glenis Hodge, indicated that as part of their mission as a true community partner throughout the regions in which the company operates, “Tropical Shipping is proud to support initiatives that help youths to thrive…Tropical Shipping, based in Florida, is a logistics and shipping company which this year celebrated 60 years of serving the industry specializing in ocean transportation and is proudly serving Guyana for more than 28 years, with a dedicated weekly service between Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and Suriname.”
Rotary is a dynamic organization of community leaders committed to making a positive impact through service projects and initiatives. Embodying the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self,” Rotarians actively contribute to the betterment of the local community and beyond.
The Rotary Club of Georgetown Central this year is commemorating its 40th Anniversary since receiving the Charter on November 1, 1983. As such, the Club has embarked on a series of innovative projects in keeping with the mandate of Rotary International. One of its main projects is the West Ruimveldt Literacy Initiative which provides after school classes for 25 children ages 5 – 13 years, four days every week.
The programme runs until the end of the school year and is anticipated to achieve, at minimum, an average improvement in performance by at least 50%.
