Kaieteur News – In a gesture which is seemingly dedicated to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldiers who died in Wednesday’s helicopter crash, the government will on Sunday commission the ‘Heroes Highway,’ the roadway which links Eccles to Great Diamond on the East Bank Demerara in memory of the fallen servicemen.
On the programme for the commissioning ceremony for the event, President Irfaan Ali is slated to give the feature address at the event which begins at 17:00hrs.
GDF Chief-of-Staff Brigadier Omar Khan is also slated give an address at the event.
On Wednesday, Brigadier (Ret’d) Gary Beaton, Colonel Michael Shahoud, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Charles, Lieutenant Colonel Sean Welcome and Staff Sergeant Jason Khan died when a GDF Bell412 helicopter crashed while en route to the border community of Arau.
Lieutenant Andio Crawford and Corporal Dwayne Jackson survived the accident.
The authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the crash.
