Kaieteur Sports – Gold is Money emerged victorious in the final of the Barbara Marshall birth anniversary dominoes tournament which concluded on Wednesday night at Dynasty Sports bar.
In a closely contested final, Gold is Money amassed 85 games while Vikings made 78 and Spartans 71. Vikings took an early lead as they chalked 14 games in the opening sitting while Spartans scored 13 and Gold is Money 11. Vikings extended their lead in the second round, taking their tally to 29, while Spartans finished the sitting on 23 and Gold is Money on 22.
Vikings continued to hold on to the lead with 13 and 10 games in the third and fourth rounds respectively as they took their overall score to 52.
Spartans managed 12 and 11 games in the third and fourth sittings respectively, taking their score 46, however Gold is Money chalked up 17 and 12 games in those rounds to occupy second place, closing the gap on the leaders with a total score of 51 games. Gold is Money then took the lead in the fifth round as they marked 17 games to be on 68 while Vikings made 12 to take their score to 64. Spartans managed 14 games to be on 60. Gold is Money scored 17 games in the final sitting, while Vikings made 14 and Spartans 11.
Gold is Money top scorers were Intiaz Alli with 17 games, Lawrence Whitehead 16, Sheldon Gourrick 15 and Dane Bynoe 14. For Vikings Domino Team, Troy and Dillon Griffith scored 15 games each while Mr. Clarke got 13.
Spartans leading players were Dexter Thompson with 16, Roberto Osborne 13 and Sean Mckenzie 12 games.
The winning team took home a trophy and $200,000, runner up a trophy and $100,000 and third place a trophy and $50,000.
Tamara Gilhyus was the best female player in the tournament and she collected a trophy, one medal and $10,000.
Barbara Marshall congratulated the winners and thanked all participating teams. She expressed gratitude to the sponsors which included Trophy Stall, Roderick Harry of Strikers Sports Club, Raymond Ali of All Season’s Racing Service and Jermain Jackson.
