Kaieteur Sports – A one day domino competition will be held on Sunday, 12th as celebration of the 132nd anniversary of the Town of New Amsterdam continues.
The competition, which is open to all interested teams in Guyana, will be played at the New Amsterdam Town Hall beginning at 13:00 hrs.
Entrance fee is $10,000 with the winner set to walk away with $50,000, the runner-up will get $25,000 while third place will get a hamper and trophy.
The tournament will be coordinated by Councilor Eze Blake.
The town of New Amsterdam, which is being led by Mayor Waynewright McIntosh, is the oldest town in Guyana.
It is located in East Berbice-Corentyne Region 6 on the eastern bank of the Berbice River, immediately south of the Canje River.
The town has its origins in a village which grew up alongside Fort Nassau about 56 miles on the right bank up the Berbice River.
It was later relocated to its present site at the confluence of the Berbice and Canje Rivers. New Amsterdam was subsequently established as the seat of Government for Berbice.
The celebrations this year is being held using the theme “Embracing Inclusivity for Sustainable Development of the Town of New Amsterdam.” (Samuel Whyte)
