Kaieteur News – A 26-year-old man found himself in hot water after he was arrested and had in his possession a 9mm Beretta, which he said he was keeping for a friend.
The man is not the holder of a firearm licence. Ranks of the Beterverwagting Police Station received a call around 04:15 on Monday from a Private Security Service rank, explaining that he has collected a firearm from a male patron at a bar in Mon Repos.
The man who was identified as a 26-year-old construction worker was reportedly walking around with the firearm in his hand, when he was approached by the security guard who seized it. The man was taken to the station and questioned about where he got the weapon. He revealed that the gun belongs to a 65-year-old gold miner of Providence East Bank with whom he is familiar.
He informed the police that his friend is licensed to carry the firearm but he had handed over the gun to him for “safe keeping” since he was imbibing. The 9mm pistol and 15 matching live rounds were lodged and both the licensed firearm holder and friend are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
