Kaieteur Sports – In hard-fought matches held on Sunday evening, Victoria Kings were defeated by Den Amstel Football Club and Guyana Defence Force emerged victorious against Fruta Conquerors in the Guyana Football Federation KFC Elite League Cup.
The November 5 opening match at the Eve Leary Sports Ground in Kingston, Georgetown, saw Den Amstel Football Club clinching a 1-0 victory over Victoria King Football Club.
While both teams displayed robust defensive performances, it was Tyrek Grant of Den Amstel who broke the deadlock, scoring the sole goal in the 62nd minute of the game.
Den Amstel Football Club demonstrated resolute defensive strength, effectively negating numerous close scoring opportunities created by Victoria Kings.
In the second match of the night, Guyana Defence Force Football Club triumphed over Fruta Conquerors Football Club with a score of 2 – 0. Delroy Fraser netted the initial goal in the 24th minute.
Although Fruta Conquerors made persistent efforts to equalise, it was Jeffrey Perriera’s goal in the 90+2 that ultimately sealed the victory for Guyana Defence Force.
The KFC Elite League Cup features ten participating teams, organised into two distinct groups. Group A includes Guyana Defence Force, Santos, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors, and Milerock, while Group B comprises Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force, Den Amstel, Victoria Kings and Ann’s Grove.
The championship team will receive a cash prize of $1.5 million, while the second place team will be awarded $1 million. Additionally, the third and fourth-placed clubs will receive $500,000 and $250,000 in cash, respectively.
The league, currently in its fourth week, continues to delight fans with exhilarating competition among the participating clubs.
