Kaieteur Sports – Darren Bravo churned out his best first class performance to ensure the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force enter Tuesday’s semi-finals as the number one team, when they play long-time foes Guyana Harpy Eagles for a spot in the finals.
The left-hander hit 139 not out off 119 balls, decorating the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium with 9 fours and 7 sixes, setting up a crushing 78 run win over Barbados Pride.
Guyana on Saturday managed to squeeze their way into the semis after twin fifties from Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Shimron Hetmyer helped them to get past Jamaica by 7 wickets, thus securing a place in Wednesday’s first qualifier.
Second place Leeward Islands Hurricanes will have an interesting battle on their hands, when they play Barbados in Thursday’s second semi-finals.
Leewards unfortunately were robbed in their final match before the important stages, as their match versus CCC was abandoned due to rain. West Indies Academy and the Windward Islands also had their games interrupted as part of this past weekend’s final round of preliminary games.
The Hurricanes however managed to beat Barbados a few days back thanks to 6 wickets between Alzzari Joseph and Hayden Walsh Jr. coupled with 95* from Justin Greaves.
The Pride, having lost to their semi-final opponents just a few days ago, lost more momentum when they suffered at the hands of Bravo and company on Sunday, as they ended the preliminary rounds on two bad notes.
Greaves (328 runs) and Bravo (323 runs) will be in a race for the title of leading run-scorer as the competition culminates in a couple of games.
The most wickets bowling column is currently dominated by spinners, with the magician Sunil Narine heading up the list.
Narine recently retired from international cricket and will enter Wednesday’s game as the joint leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps.
Narine’s teammate, leg-break spinner Yannick Cariah also has 16 wickets while another leg-spinner in Walsh Jr. caps off the top 3 with 16 wickets, making these next few games a sprint for the title of leading wicket-taker this season.
Only Tevin Imlach (233 runs) and lone centurion for his team this season, Sherfane Rutherford, will enter the final leg of the tournament as the only 2 players to feature in the top 10 leading run-scorers.
For the Guyanese bowlers, only Kevin Sinclair (14 wickets ) and 11 apiece from Captain Veerasammy Permaul and Gudakesh Motie, burst their way into the top 10 leading bowlers, with a good chance of ending the season within the final top 3 ranks.
