Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is continuing its efforts to keep youths occupied and away from illicit activities. As such a number of youth, sports and scouts groups have been formed in most divisions in the county.
One such group, the Beterverwagting Youth Empowerment Police Youth Club, has taken it a step further with the formation of a football section among its ranks.
The launching of the football club took place recently at the Beterverwagting Police Station compound, East Coast Demerara.
Woman Sergeant Sardinha was on hand to give words of encouragement as she congratulated the newly formed football club members. The sergeant promised to work closely with the group members. She further encouraged all youths and attendees to grasp the opportunities that will be provided to them through the partnership of the Guyana Police Force and expressed optimism that other youths would join the football club.
The newly launched group has over eighteen (18) members. The club participated in the recently held Police Division 4’C’ Commander’s Cup Football Competition held at the Buxton Community Center Ground.
The youths were encouraged to stay in school and take their education seriously and always be of good behavior. They were told that education is the most important key to unlocking their future.
Football uniforms were distributed to all members of the newly formed club.
