Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the persistent issue of noise pollution in our community, specifically on Third Street, Helena Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
Often complaints would have been made to the Mahaica Police Station over the phone but the situation remains unchanged, causing significant distress to the residents in the area, myself included.
Regrettably, the Mahaica Police Station has not taken adequate measures to address these disturbances, even though complaints have been made over the phone. Strangely, I have observed a discrepancy in the response of the police – while prompt actions have been taken in response to noise complaints from other areas, the situation at Third Street seems to be overlooked.
This issue reached an alarming peak last Sunday when loud music continued well into the early hours of the morning. Despite my attempts to sleep through the disturbance, I was abruptly awakened at 3 AM, and the music persisted until 4:15 AM. I had called the Mahaica Police Station at around 3:15 AM. The police station is 5 minutes away from the area. I am not certain if the music stopped because of their intervention or if the partygoers had enough at that time.
I urge the Mahaica Police Station to take this matter seriously and implement appropriate measures to curb noise pollution in our neighborhood. The right to peace and quiet is a fundamental one, and every resident deserves to live in an environment free from such disturbances. I implore the police to treat all complaints, regardless of their origin, with the same level of urgency and responsiveness.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that the necessary actions will be taken promptly. Together, we can make our community a more peaceful and enjoyable place to live.
Yours sincerely,
Resident of Helena Mahaica
