Dear Editor,
The increasing Venezuelan military presence on Ankoko Island is not a matter that can await the ICJ. Guyana must with the help of its allies increase our military presence near the border. The current global military situation lends itself to an aggressive act by Venezuela, and with the help of the USA and the UK, we must ensure that we are prepared for an effective response to prevent another anti-American and anti-European response from occurring. Such an event in our region could result in a unified effort by anti-American forces. It is imperative that the Ali administration act quickly, deliberately and decisively in this urgent matter.
The recent call for by terrorist organizations for anti-American aggression is yet another sign of how urgent the situation on our border is becoming. The presence of Exxon and the current high level of hostility towards Israel and the US will invite overt aggression in our region. The Venezuelans have a strong alliance with Iran, Russia, China and Turkey. We must allow the UK and the USA to be a part of our defence efforts for Essequibo. There is much more at stake beyond our national defence.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
Chairman
