Kaieteur Sports – In early October, the Guyana Karate College (GKC) hosted a significant event where karate practitioners demonstrated their skills and determination in a recent grading examination exercise conducted at the Transport Sports Club pavilion. Led by World Karate Master Frank Woon-A-Tai, a 10th Dan black belt, approximately thirty-seven individuals achieved higher levels of martial arts expertise.
The GKC, known for its martial arts education, has nurtured discipline, respect, and dedication among its students. The recent grading examination showcased the commitment and progress of students of all ages and ranks under Master Frank Woon-A-Tai’s mentorship.
The grading examination is a traditional evaluation of a practitioner’s abilities, including technique, form, knowledge, and spirit. It serves as both a test of physical prowess and a celebration of personal growth and martial arts philosophy.
Master Woon-A-Tai, a 10th Dan black belt holder, is a legendary figure in the world of karate, shaping martial artists in Guyana and globally. His guidance and expertise were evident as he assessed participants with precision and impartiality.
Meanwhile, around thirty-seven karatekas from various backgrounds and age groups achieved new ranks and recognition. Some started their karate journey, while others embarked on a new chapter in their quest for mastery.
Notably, Mahendra Satram was promoted to 1st Dan, Bradley Mohabir and Johnathan Yong advanced to the 2nd Dan, Brandon Yong reached 3rd Dan, and Vaishawley Kandasammy attained 4th Dan.
Several individuals were promoted to different Kyu ranks, reflecting their progress and dedication. Diya Satram was confirmed as 2nd Kyu, Theresa Anthony, Angel Anthony and Nubia Neferteti move up the order to 3rd Kyu, while the 4th Kyu awardees were Angel Lam, Amelia Hassan, Johathan Brydan, Matthew Soyan and Matthew Inshanall.
The 5th Kyu was occupied by Anthony Chezzy, Jared Arthur, Michael Murray, Quincy Savory, Alleyah Hassan, Ethan Ramroop, Josiah Higgins and Zariha Waterman. While the trio of Anupa Gobin, Tarendra Gobin and Kushi Gobin were all promoted to 6th Kyu.
Liam Brumell, among four others including Natasha Antony, Meikel DeAgrella, Givani Robertson and Zseni Asween were etched as 7th Kyu ranks, in addition to, Ester Reevers, Ethan English, Daniel Reevers, Sarah Reevers, Ethan Shurland, Nathan Shurland and Lalitta Narine inclusion to 8th Kyu status.
The GKC grading examination serves as a testament to the transformative power of karate and the role of experienced instructors like Master Frank Woon-A-Tai. It encourages individuals to continue pushing their boundaries, unlocking their true potential, and embracing the spirit of continuous improvement.
