Profile of confessed killer of Amit Singh…
Kaieteur News – On Instagram , he goes by the name ‘Elchapo Escobar’ and his lifestyle appears to be a mixture of glitz and glamour, one of luxury and accomplishment with pieces of gold strewn across the table in multiple photographs.
It appears, his life is all about gold, even to kill for.
But in all the images of Yogeendra Sukhdeo, one thing is consistent; there is no hint of a smile, not even in social settings like him sitting under a thatched roof in an open-air environment where he can be seen shaking expensive Chuva de Prata champagne with a gold chain hung around his neck.
He stares at the camera, often posing beside expensive rides, and his bearded demeanour tells his followers on Instagram why he chose to be seen on their devices with the name ‘Escobar,’ the Colombian drug lord who is revered by many who simply want to be like ‘Pablo.’
While this young Guyanese businessman appears to bring the dead drug lord’s appearance to life in his posts, he also chose another wishful thinking path by carrying the name of another surviving ‘cartel’ leader, Joaquin Guzman-Loera or, who many may know as ‘El Chapo,’ the Mexican drug lord, a leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Such is the social media life of Sukhdeo that multiple questions emerge even as the crime sleuths of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) comb through the evidence which ties him to the gruesome murder of young Amit Singh, the 21-year-old businessman who was bludgeoned to death in a house at Middle Road, La Penitence allegedly by Sukhdeo, a murder he confessed to, the GPF said.
Sukhdeo’s photographs are not only about how he is seen. They also provide an insight into his dreams and aspirations and his business persona; at least that is the impression those images created in the mind to this writer and first-time viewer of his Instagram account.
His photographs are all about gold, grains of it, handheld and on the scale. Even the name of his businesses El Dorado Luxury Rentals, El Dorado Mining and El Dorado Landscaping Solutions, all of which he is listed as the Chief Executive Officer, were birthed with gold concepts.
His business persona is also in sync with the times, as he sits in his business attire in the lobby of one of Georgetown’s most luxurious hotels.
Two days before the crime, he quoted the Mafia code of silence on Instagram. “It’s not about the money; it’s about the power.” He said, “Money can’t buy loyalty, but in the Mafia, it can buy silence.” He said, “In the Mafia, fear is weapon, and reputation is everything.”
This is the life of luxury, upper class opulence and, of dreams. A life that mimics two of the world’s most popular drug lords and points to many questions; if one is so filthy rich, why kill another for $7.9M? What was the mood during their last moments with the victim, who was supposedly his friend? What were his victim’s last words?
Lastly, one may ask how much gold he promised to sell his victim, the precious metal which ultimately may lead him behind bars, not gold bars.
