Kaieteur Sports – Western Tigers and the Guyana Defence Force Football Clubs recorded memorable victories over Den Amstel and Milerock Football Clubs on Sunday in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) KFC Elite League Cup.
The thrilling double-header was witnessed by fans at the Police, Eve Leary Sports Ground in Kingston, Georgetown.
In the first game of the night Western Tigers defeated Den Amstel 3-0. The match was goalless in the first half despite several serious attempts from both teams to gain the upper hand.
It was Western Tiger’s Joshua Liverpool, who scored the first goal in the 58 minute, with Randolph Wagner increasing the lead in the 79th minute. Just as Den Amstel were hoping for a glimmer of hope, David Moshett delivered a stunning blow in the 80th minute to secure victory for his team.
In the second match of the evening, the Guyana Defence Force displayed their dominance by securing an impressive 4-0 victory against the visiting Milerock Football Club.
The Guyana Defence Force relentlessly pressured Milerock’s defence with Kelsey Benjamin scoring the team’s first goal in the 23th minute of the game.
Chris Macey added to the scoreline with an impressive goal in the 37th minute, followed closely by Derie Bethune’s goal in the 34th minute.
Milerock struggled to contain the attacking prowess of the Guyana Defence Force players, who were determined to extend their advantage. As the game entered additional time Macey once again stole the spotlight, securing the team’s victory with a second goal at 90 + 1.
The KFC Elite League Cup brings together ten exceptional clubs, with Group A featuring a fierce competition among Guyana Defence Force, Santos, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors, and Milerock. Meanwhile, Group B showcases the talents of Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force, Den Amstel, Victoria Kings, and Ann’s Grove.
Each team is driven by the desire to claim the prestigious title and the lucrative prize money of $1.5 million dollars. The second-place team will be rewarded with $1 million, while the clubs securing third and fourth place will receive well-deserved recognition and prizes of $500,000 and $250,000 respectively.
The tournament returns on Friday, October 27, with an exhilarating double-header.
The action-packed evening will kick off with Fruta Conquerors facing off against Buxton United at 7 p.m., followed by an intense match between Guyana Police
Force and Ann’s Grove Football Clubs at 9 p.m. all at Eve Leary Sports Ground in
Georgetown.
On Sunday, October 29, fans will have the opportunity to witness two exciting matches – Milerock take on Santos at 7 p.m., and Western Tigers will battle the Victoria Kings at 9 p.m. Both matches will take place at the GDF Camp Ayangana Ground in Georgetown.
The GFF Competitions Department said spectators can expect a night filled with fierce action and unforgettable moments, which is a must see.
