Kaieteur Sports – Aleka Persaud and Raekwon Noel have successfully concluded their participation at the Pan Am Games, and although they didn’t secure podium finishes, both athletes are content with their performances.
Persaud wrapped up her time in Santiago, Chile, competing in the women’s 50m freestyle event with a time of 27.81 seconds.
The 17-year-old Olympic swimmer, competing at her first Pan Am Games, also entered the pool in the women’s 100m freestyle and butterfly events. “I am happy with all my time for the events, and I’m very satisfied with the outcome.”
On the other hand, Noel faced a disqualification in the men’s 400m individual medley, despite showing promise in the men’s 400m and 800m freestyle events.
“My performance wasn’t bad the entire meet. I didn’t prepare the way I wanted to; This is the first meet of the season, and I’m really confident in where I can go in the next couple of months,” Noel said.
With the focus shifting to other athletes, Devin Persaud is set to participate in archery starting from November 1.
Additionally, Emanuel Archibald (100m, 200m), Leslain Baird (Javelin), Keliza Smith (100m), Jasmine Abrams (100m), and Aliyah Abrams (400m) will bring their talents to the track from October 29.
Starting on the same date, Shemar Britton and Chelsea will engage in singles and mixed doubles table tennis events.
As the competition resumes on October 30, Hemchandra Persaud will proudly carry the flag for Guyana, aiming to secure the country’s first-ever medal at the Pan Am Games. (Rawle Toney)
