Kaieteur News – City Constable Linden Isaacs who was previously charged for discharging a loaded firearm towards his colleague and her male companion on September 9, 2023, was on Monday refused bail for the second time after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Jammanie Saul and Isaacs are co-workers and were both on duty at the Bourda City Constabulary Outpost on September 9, 2023 when the incident occurred.
Miguel Wilson, 50, an overseas-based citizen, reportedly visited Saul at her workplace, and the two were sitting next to each other chatting, which annoyed Isaacs.
The City Constable, who was armed with a .38 revolver with six live rounds, reportedly became furious by the sight of the two together, and as such, he pointed the firearm in the direction of the duo and discharged three shots. The victims fell to the ground, while Isaacs made good his escape with the gun.
Saul sustained a gunshot wound to her left hand, while Wilson sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh. They were both rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) with the assistance of public-spirited citizens.
On Monday, the accused made his second court appearance virtually, via zoom, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, before Magistrate Rondell Weever. Isaacs was represented by Attorney-at-Law, Adrian Thompson, who requested reasonable bail on his client’s behalf.
The prosecution noted that there has been a delay in processing trial-related materials, including video recordings, photographs and witness statements. Despite the prosecutor not objecting to bail, the magistrate said the court is concerned that if bail is granted to the defendant the virtual complainants (VC) would be endangered.
The prosecution noted that Isaacs had threatened one of the virtual complainants in the past, and due to the facts presented to the court, Magistrate Weever refused bail and the man was remanded to prison.
The next court hearing is set for November 17, 2023.
