Guyana Harpy Eagles vs. Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC)
– Both franchises tied on 5 Points apiece
Kaieteur Sports – Looking to follow up their magical victory with another W, Guyana Harpy Eagles will shift their focus to the CCC boys as the two battle today at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, St Augustine.
Both teams are fresh off wins and are tied on 5 points apiece, with the Eagles pulling off a daring comeback thriller recently, after Sherfane Rutherford pummeled an unbeaten ton; making the Eagles batting even more dangerous.
Shimron Hetmyer, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chandrapaul Hemraj have been under pressure with the bat so far and will need to dig in today against a mixed bowling attack from CCC. All-rounder Romario Shepherd remains one of the Eagles X-Factors in both departments.
Vice-captain Tevin Imlach will need to convert his starts into significant scores while Kemol Savory should get another knock given his last game. Along with Kevlon Anderson, Kevin Sinclair and the confident Rutherford breaking the team’s jinx notching up their first big score.
CCC could bank on their own Guyanese pair in Akshaya Persaud with bat and pacer Isai Thorne with ball. Thorne grabbed 2 wickets in his team’s last win while Persaud will want to rebound from his duck, but the Captain Shane Dowrich hit a century to help boost his team’s confidence.
Along with openers Kadeem Alleyne and Johan Jeremiah, CCC will need to be wary of the Guyanese bowling depth. Captain Veerasammy Permaul continues to add to his list of victims as the Region’s most successful bowler. Along with Gudakesh Motie, Sinclair, Shepherd and Ronsford Beaton, the Eagles will fancy their chances.
Guyana will enter the match with their tails up, but CCC will also favour their chances given their current form, making today’s match a good one in the making. Over at the Queen’s Park Oval, West Indies Academy will play Jamaica Scorpions, while Windward Island Volcanoes battle Barbados Pride at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
