Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Wado-Ryu Karate Association (GWRKA) has lauded the performance of 51-year-old Manzoor Ali who won his division at the recently held Guyana National Senior Karate Championships at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Ali secured first position in the 75kg division in the Senior male Kumite. He also teamed up with Duane Peters and Sequoya Shuman to clinch a third position in the Open Male Kumite contest.
Shuman placed first in the Male 14-17 Kumite in the 68+ kg class, while Musa Khan and Gunwattie Sirpaul finished second in the Male Senior 60kg and Female Senior Open respectively.
Other top place finishers for the GWRKA were Oshana Quamina who placed second in the Female 14-17 Open and Peters who claimed third place in the 67kg division.
Head coach, Sensei Winston Dunbar said he was extremely pleased with the performance from the team and he is confident that there will be much improved showing in future championships.
Sensei Dunbar lauded seasoned campaigner Ali for his outstanding showing at the championships. The team was coached by Sensei Dunbar and Dennis Fiffee.
