Kaieteur Sports – The Fourth Annual Limacol Secondary School Under-18 Football League is poised to make its grand entrance, igniting the field of secondary school football once more. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to kick off on October 29th, taking place at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground. The fervor surrounding this year’s tournament was palpable as it was officially launched yesterday in a ceremony held at the National Library’s Conference room.
The Petra Organization spearheads this 2023 football extravaganza, aptly dubbed the ‘Champion of Champions,’ promising an electrifying showdown. Eight of the finest teams are set to battle it out over the next seven weeks for the prestigious title, and they’ll be competing not only for glory but also for a championship purse that stands at an impressive $300,000.
The Petra Organization, known for its unwavering commitment to the development of youth football in the nation, has been an integral part of the sports landscape for the past decade. Their remarkable contribution extends to the production of national players, including the current national sensation, Omar Glasgow, and talents like Kelsey Benjamin, among others.

The tournament unfolds under the round-robin format, with each team playing each other once, setting the stage for the thrilling knockout stages. The lineup for this year’s competition comprises eight top schools that showcased their excellence in the recently concluded Milo Under-18 football tournament.

Among the notable participants in this year’s competition are Christianburg Secondary, Carmel Secondary, East Ruimveldt Secondary, McKenzie, Ann’s Grove Secondary, Bartica Secondary, Chases Academy, and Santa Rosa Secondary. These schools, representing the cream of the crop, are poised to exhibit their talent and tenacity on the pitch.
Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, expressed his gratitude to the tournament’s sponsor, New GPC under the Limacol brand. Their unwavering commitment to the development of the sport has been a driving force behind the success of this tournament, ensuring that youth football in the country continues to thrive and evolve.
“As we launch today, one of the most important programme; the Secondary School Football League, this time around under the sponsorship of Limacol. It is noteworthy for us to understand how critical it is to host this tournament. As many of you may know, the top eight teams from the Milo tournament was selected to be a part of this league. And upon the completion of this league we (Petra) will select the top three/four finishers will be granted a participation in our Good Will tournament scheduled for December. In addition we have recognised the advancement of players with opportunities to further their skills through scholarship and sponsorship.” Mendonca stated during his feature address.
Meanwhile, the tournament kicks off this Sunday and promises riveting action.
