Kaieteur Sports – Alan Connell, the manager of English Premier League side, AFC Bournemouth’s development squad, has expressed his delight at the return to fitness of Guyana’s Nathan Moriah-Welsh.
The resilient 21-year-old, currently representing the Golden Jaguars in St Kitts and Nevis had shone during his loan stint with Newport County last season.
However, his progress was halted by a knee injury sustained while on international duty with Guyana before their Concacaf Nations League campaign.
During the 2021/22 FA Cup, Moriah-Welsh made two starts for AFC Bournemouth and was awarded the Young Player of the Year for his outstanding performances with Newport County in the 2022/23 season.
Connell shared his thoughts on afcb.co.uk, saying, “Off the back of a successful loan spell at Newport County last season, Nathan was unfortunate to get injured while he was away with Guyana in June…He’s been out for a few months but he’s worked very hard with his rehab and is now at the point where he’s back in the squad.”
He added, “Nathan is a big character and has a lot of quality so we’re delighted to have him involved. It’s a young squad so his experience will also be beneficial to us. Hopefully, he can build up his minutes, start to put together a run of games and challenge for a place in the first-team squad as he did before his loan spell at Newport.”
Moriah-Welsh is widely regarded as the linchpin of Guyana’s national team and has consistently impressed since his debut against The Bahamas during the Nations League.
