Dear Editor,
A week ago, the world watched in horror as numerous innocent Jewish lives were massacred in the most horrific and evil way. It is a sad refrain for a people that have been subjected to the harshest forms of barbarism for thousands of years.
The tiny Jewish world population is about 15 million people, and Israel’s size is only about 8 thousand square miles. Yes, Guyana is more than ten times larger than Israel. It is a tiny dot, compared to its large neighbours. Yet, the Jewish people’s accomplishments are massive and far outweigh its population and size. Regardless of what area or sphere of excellence is considered, it is likely to have a Jewish person in the lead. They dominate in medicine, law, business, engineering etc. They also dominate in an area that is most felt by the poor and the oppressed – by far, Jews are the biggest philanthropists.
India has always been a friend of the Jewish people. In fact, India is one of the few countries where Jews have never faced bias, persecution or prejudice. The Jewish and Indian people have an unbreakable bond that is based on friendship, understanding and mutual respect. We stand with Israel.
Sincerely,
Jhagroo Persaud
