Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s Steffan Jeffrey and Kahlil Rickford secured places among the top 10 out of 333 online qualifiers in the inaugural South American Esports Championship, finishing 7th and 10th respectively.
Both racers are now set to compete in the grand final event scheduled for November 2 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) was excited to announce that, for the first time, Guyana will have representation on the Esports stage, thanks to their partnership with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and iRacing.
With a slim margin of less than six-tenths of a second separating the top competitors, Jeffrey and Rickford’s achievements are truly commendable.
They will face off against elite sim drivers from six South American nations, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
The stakes are high, with the winner receiving an all-inclusive experience during the Brazilian Grand Prix the following weekend.
Furthermore, the top three performers in the São Paulo finals will be awarded cash prizes: $1,000 for the champion, $500 for the first runner-up, and $250 for the second runner-up.
The debut for Guyana in the Esports arena underscores the nation’s growth in motor racing and highlights the untapped talent prepared to leave a mark on international circuits, both virtual and real.
