– Hussain pleased with current stage of development
Kaieteur Sports – The Nexgen Golf Academy and the Ministry of Education Unit of Allied Arts was introduced to Suriname by executives of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA) who took time to visit the Ritfield Secondary School in Paramaribo to host clinics and a mini tournament.
Paramaribo Golf Club Manager Freddie Linger joined with Coach Aleem Hussain, GGA executive Monnaf Arjune and junior golfers Adina and Adam Arjune to introduce the game to over 75 first time players including teachers and Head Teacher Eunice Charlery who said, “This was an amazing experience for our children and we never thought that any of us would be able to experience a sport that we only saw on television. I wish to thank Mr. Hussain and his entire Guyanese team for taking time out of their busy schedule to make this a most memorable experience for our students and teachers.”
Golf has made tremendous progress under the umbrella of the Guyana Golf Association, Nexgen Golf Academy and the Ministry of Education Unit of Allied Arts over the past two years, with hundreds of students making golf their PE elective at the CSEC examinations and thousands of persons in Guyana being able to experience the game for the first time.
The positive reactions shown by the participants of the activity has resulted in overtures being made by parents and teachers to the respective Surinamese Ministries of Education and Sport to develop a similar programme.
President of the GGA Aleem Hussain said, “This is simply another step in our mandate as the entity responsible for golf development to promote the game to new players which transcends borders. With more players competing, it will improve development of Guyana’s sports tourism as well as sharpen our players competitive skills.”
The clinic was supported by Haukes Construction N.V. and Digicel Business, two long-time supporters of the program being developed by Nexgen Golf Academy.
