Dear Editor,
The PPP and the State controlled Chronicle are obsessed with making propaganda capital at every opportunity.
I read with dismay the Chronicle Editorial today connecting a visit by Mrs. Jagan to the People’s Republic of China in 1962 into the initiative taken in 1962 by the Burnham administration to have diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, the first in the Caribbean.
I was a youngster moving around political figures in the 60s after the 1961 General Elections and I am aware that in 1972, top brass of the PPP were reluctant to support the PNC’s initiative to have diplomatic relations with China because they did not wish to offend the Soviet Union.
I’m told that at the 74th Anniversary of the PRC held on October 1, 2023, both the President Dr. Irfan Ali and the General Secretary of the PPP, Bharat Jagdeo (who was in Guyana) were no-shows . They were represented by the Prime Minister and Minister Todd. Those who know who are the heavy weights in the PPP will read much into the above fact, so whoever writes that Editorial in today’s paper is on the merry mission to hoodwink the people. You can fool some of the people, some of the time ,but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
Regards,
Eric Moseley, MS
