Kaieteur Sports – After a thrilling start to the ‘One Guyana’ Premier Basketball League, and a brief break, fans and players alike are eagerly anticipating the resumption of action following a one-month break during September. Organised by the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF), in collaboration with the Georgetown Basketball Association (GBA) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), this basketball extravaganza is set to restart this Saturday, October 7.
The National Gymnasium’s Outdoor Court will once again be the center of attention, with three exciting matches scheduled for the day. The basketball frenzy begins with Cummingsberg’s Bounty Colts taking on Lamaha Springs/Park’s Pepsi Sonics at 17:00 hours. Later in the evening, Mc Doom/Prospect’s Kobras will meet Lenora’s D-Up Rising Stars at 19:00 hours, followed by Kwakwani’s Untouchables taking on Plaisance Guardians at 21:00 hours.
With 14 teams in the competition, the ‘One Guyana’ Premier Basketball League is divided into two conferences: the Harpy Eagles Conference and the Jaguar Conference. A total of 64 thrilling games before the league culminate in a National Finals. Matches will be played every Saturday, ensuring that fans have a regular dose of high-octane basketball action until a champion is decided.
In addition to the intense competition on the court, there are substantial rewards awaiting the victors. The champions of the ‘One Guyana’ Premier Basketball League will receive a staggering $1,000,000 in prize money. Meanwhile, the league’s runners-up will not go home empty-handed, with a respectable $500,000 awaiting them. It’s not just the teams that will be recognized; outstanding players and teams will also be rewarded with medals, trophies, and substantial cash prizes, acknowledging their exceptional performances throughout the league.
The success of this basketball tournament would not have been possible without the generous support of its sponsors. The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCY&S), the GBF, the GBA, the NSC, H&J Entertainment, and G-Boats Guyana have all played a pivotal role in making this sporting spectacle a reality.
