Kaieteur News – In a groundbreaking and momentous engagement event, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) hosted a simple media briefing yesterday at the National Training Centre (NTC) to provide crucial updates on the ongoing project. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the development of the facility.
During an official interview, Wayne Forde, the President of the GFF, shared important details about the progress of the development works at NTC. Notably, the contract for the electrical aspect of the project was awarded to Moscow Engineering (USA). The GFF had previously commissioned the playing areas in 2017 and completed the Federation’s building in 2020, which includes accommodations, a gym, and ample space for guests. However, the latest update indicates that the federation is now advancing to the next phase of the project, which involves the installation of internationally approved lighting and seating for the southern and western ends of the facility.
The primary objective of the media briefing was to provide an official update to the general public and the project’s stakeholders. It’s important to note that this project is also part of the FIFA Forward programme, with the ultimate goal of making the facility suitable for hosting international matches, possibly as early as 2024, according to Forde.
Forde emphasized, “The GFF welcomes the support of FIFA and CONCACAF at this moment. We are working aggressively to have these works completed by the first week of December 2023, in time for the upcoming Season 6 of the National Elite League. Furthermore, we anticipate the full completion of this facility within the next four years.”
Currently, the project is in the electrical stages, with Cummings Electrical Engineering Services as the assigned contractor for this aspect of the work. Rawlson Adams, the Project Manager, explained that the lighting systems for the project will consist of a four-tower system, with lights to be strategically installed at the four corners of the pitch. They are currently in the process of offloading the components of the lights. Additionally, the project includes the acquisition of generators to ensure power availability in the event of shortages. Adams also hinted at the commissioning of the lights scheduled for December.

Forde, the GFF President, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are happy to be in this moment in our football history, delivering to the Guyana football fraternity and the nation at large. This facility marks a significant milestone as the first official home of football in Guyana. While we appreciate the efforts of the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Charles Ramson Jr., and the Government of Guyana in addressing infrastructure challenges, the GFF also has an obligation to contribute to resolving this issue. We understand the pressing need for improved infrastructure, and from the GFF’s standpoint, we have been diligently working to address this challenge.”
