Kaieteur News – When yuh young, yuh does believe that de life of a teacher is like strolling through a field of daisies. But as yuh get older, yuh realize dat a day in de life of a teacher gat its trials and tribulations.
The life of a teacher is not only about imparting knowledge. Yuh does gat administrative duties, including marking yuh class’s daily register. And when de day done, yuh can get headaches from having to deal with a difficult class.
And some of dem children are not easy to manage. Most teachers dream of having a magic wand dem can wave that would cause dem children to keep quiet and pay attention to what is taking place. But dese days teachers frighten fuh even wave a wild cane because dem parents like complain how teachers nat suppose to flog dem children.
Dem boys remember de time dem teacher did teaching de class mathematics. One of de students raised his hand and said, “Excuse me Miss but I don’t know how to say fractions. How do you say those?”
“Easy,” said the teacher, “you just say the top number and then the bottom number is read as an ordinal number. For example, 2/3 is ‘two-thirds’, 3/4 is ‘three-fourths’, and 2/5 is ‘two-fifths’.”
“Thanks, I understand, “said the student.
“Good,” said the teacher, and then asked the student, “so how do you say 4/8?”
“Should I reduce?” asked the student
“That would be best,” said the teacher.
“One-second,” said the boy.
