Kaieteur Sports – The Georgetown Office Assistants and Promotion Committee (G.O.A.P.C) recently organised two separate Secondary School Tapeball Cricket Knockout competitions, with West Demerara Secondary and Combined Secondary emerging as champions in their respective tournaments.
In the Trans Guyana Airways/Woodpecker-sponsored five-a-side cricket final, West Demerara Secondary faced Patentia Secondary School. Nine schools had initially participated in the competition, but it was West Demerara Secondary that triumphed, defeating Patentia Secondary by a narrow margin of 2 runs.
West Demerara Secondary batted first and posted a score of 73-3 in their allotted 5 overs. In response, Patentia Secondary managed to score only 71 runs for 4 wickets in their 5 overs, leading to West Demerara Secondary’s well-deserved victory.
Meanwhile, in other finals held at the Police Sports Club ground, the Combined Secondary and the Guyana Police Force (trainees) competed for the PKF Barcellos, Narine & Co./Maurice Solomon & Co. trophy. In an exciting match, the Combined Secondary schools emerged victorious, defeating the Police Trainees by 8 wickets. Police Trainees batted first, scoring 61-7 in their 10 overs. In a remarkable run chase, Combined Secondary reached the target in just 6.4 overs, with a score of 63 for 2.
Event Coordinator James “Uprising” Lewis had the honour of presenting the prizes and medals to the two winners and the most outstanding players, with Robin Seeharran receiving the MVP of the tournament award.
