Kaieteur Sports – Whilst some are happy and partying and celebrating Cricket Carnival and Guyana winning the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), youths (both males and females) in the New Amsterdam Canje area are feeling sad due to the damage caused to their venue that the used for various sporting and social activities.
The management team of the Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) and more so the Cricket Club is not happy. The reason is that recently a Cricket Carnival Chutney show was held at the venue. The members are lamenting the damage that was done to the venue and the state that it was left in following the show.
In a post from the club, the members spoke about the damage to the venue and pitch and the ground littered with broken bottles.
The RHCC is used by thousands of persons mostly for cricket, football, athletics and other outdoor and indoor sports.
The club in a release stated that, “It breaks our heart to see the state that the venue was left in. Yesterday our young cricketers were unable to practice due the countless broken bottles on the outfield. Majority of the broken bottles were pressed in to the outfield by vehicles that were allowed into the venue.”
“Our club now raises the questions:
-Who’s gonna make sure it’s safe for kids to practice?
-Who’s gonna clean up the venue and will it be safe again? When will the youths be allowed to train again safely?”
The club stated that, “Even though it’s good to have such social events, what about the after effect? Why weren’t better measures put in place such as the usage of plastic cups? ”
The RHCC has been on the rise recently and recently won the Berbice U15 cricket competition. The release further states that, “As of recent, our club has been one of the most progressive in the county. Its membership comprise of over 50 youths, both males and females.
The club is also currently the only club in the entire country to produce Guyana at every youth level in both the males and females categories.
It also currently has both male and female West Indies U19 players. It also has male and female players at the international and franchise levels.
In a passionate plea the club is pleading with the relevant authorities to help restore the venue back to some semblance of safety so that the cricketers can continue to use the venue. It noted that nobody would want to see their kids get hurt especially in an unsafe environment.
It stated that our West Indies youth players are given a training programme to complete and they are now forced to find an alternate venue which is highly unfair.
Also, all of our club’s home games will be pushed to away venues which will now come with travelling expenses.
Also this is the school athletics season and with the venue overwhelmed with broken bottles it is unsafe to use.
The question is where will the aspiring cricketers, athletes and other sports personalities will use?
As of yesterday the large remnant of a stage was left in the middle of the ground.
