Kaieteur Sports – ENTRIES for Saturday’s Cricket Carnival President Cup day of racing at Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC), Rising Sun Village, Berbice, which closed yesterday, have been flowing smoothly creating a clear path for one of the largest Presidents Cup ever. As the entire country unites to celebrate this Sunday’s CPL Final the horseracing fraternity will be out in their numbers on Saturday 23rd September, 2023 at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice.
The feature event on the day’s nine-race card is the eight furlongs (8 furs) President Cup. This race is now hailed as a grudge match from the Guyana Cup winner, Easy Time, and runner-up, El Tarzan with last year’s winner, Alado who finished unplaced in the Guyana Cup also expected to defend his title.
Patrons are in for a treat with an unexpected twist to the Cricket Carnival President Cup with Javed Ali and Slingerz Racing Stable, who owns El Tarzan and John Bull, to use a new strategy to take the trophy home.
He is sending out John Bull to claim the crown. In an interview Mr. Ali declared, “John Bull is the better horse and he is coming to claim the crown. Nasrudeen “Junior” Mohamed will not have an easy time. Our camp is prepared and ready for Saturday’s race to take full advantage of Easy Time.”
Ali further explained, “I do not want Junior to believe I am running a relay in the race to beat him with my two horses. I am coming with one on one like the CPL final on Sunday and this race is a final also. So, horsemen come out and see a thrilling day of non-stop excitement. The Final will be ‘easy time’ for Guyana to record its first CPL victory in the final. No stopping us. Easy Time’s runaway success in his debut start at such a high level in the Guyana Cup is tipped to record the Guyana Cup/President Cup double. Alado accomplished the same double last year for Master Z Racing, and trainer Nasrudeen Mohamed Jnr. Easy Time is owned by the same duo of Master Z Racing and Nasrudeen ‘Junior’ Mohamed.
The Cricket Carnival President Cup will be supported by eight other races on the day. It has a Sprint and a ‘Derby’ rematch with Rachel flying the Guyana-bred flag against the Trini-bred Firecracker, who beat her in the Derby on Guyana Cup day. Princess Ruby another Trini bred, who is sister to Princess Aruna, who is unbeaten in Trinidad on the turf course. Princess Ruby disappointed her connections, and it appeared that she ‘bled’ and that resulted in her dismal run.
Patrons are asked to get those early bird tickets as soon possible to avoid the rush and come early to the races, as Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) will be having something special on the day.
