…GFF fined by Concacaf for improper venue
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has incurred a fine from Concacaf due to their hosting of the Golden Jaguars versus the Bahamas match on September 12 at the National Track and Field Centre.
The GFF received notification from Concacaf, explaining that the playing surface did not meet the minimum required standards for international matches, resulting in the imposed fine.
Consequently, Guyana is now compelled to hold their home game in the Women’s Gold Cup qualification tournament in Barbados, at the Wildey Turf on Sunday, September 24.
The Lady Jags are set to embark on their journey to qualify for a second Gold Cup, commencing with an away match against Antigua and Barbuda today.
They are competing in Group B of the Concacaf Road to Gold Cup 2023, while the Golden Jaguars are participating in the Concacaf Nations League.
Addressing the situation, GFF President Wayne Forde expressed the Federation’s inability to assure Concacaf that the playing surface in Guyana would meet the minimum requirements, despite ongoing efforts by local authorities to rectify the existing conditions.
The Lady Jags will initiate their campaign against Antigua and Barbuda today, September 20, at the ABFA Technical Centre in St. John’s, Antigua, followed by their second match against Dominica on Sunday.
