Dear Editor,
This is my second letter to you to please put in print my concern. I am living at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. I have a mother, age 85 years old and it is very sad to see the sleepless nights she has to endure because of a few individuals who operate some nightclubs at Bath Settlement in an area called Pitch Street.
The noise level emanating from these music sets can be heard from miles away. The people from Bath Settlement need some peace. They are a village of hard-working Guyanese and when they go to bed, they must have a good night’s rest to wake up in the morning fully invigorated to perform their day’s work, our school children need peace to complete their homework, a good night’s rest to return to school healthy and strong. I am asking the relevant authority to please take a positive step and stop this nuisance.
It is a great menace to society; it affects both the young and old. The noise decibel is over 90 all this happens after 11 pm. Should this be allowed to continue, it can cause a public disaster or an imminent danger to our people’s health. Do we want to produce a nation of mendicants?
I want the elected officials of Region 5 to visit this area, see for themselves, and take a positive step to eradicate the scourge that affects the people of Bath. Then and only then, we can have ‘One Guyana’ loving and beautiful.
Thank you!
Mohan Persaud
