Kaieteur Sports – Former Guyana youth player Rovendra Mandolall struck a blistering 46 to pilot Warriors Cricket Club to a five-wicket victory over defending champions Rebels Masters in the 2023 Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-40, A Division final on Sunday at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough.
The right-handed Mandolall hit five sixes and a four to help his team reach 132-5 from 19.2 overs replying to Rebels Masters’ challenging 131-8 at the expiration of the 20-overs.
The Essequibian Mandolall also shared a crucial 43-run, fourth-wicket stand with veteran batsman Avinash Singh, who contributed 19 not out.
Earlier, Rebels Masters won the toss and opted to take first strike. The decision backfired on them as wickets fell frequently. Ex-Canada player Desmond Chumney slammed four sixes in an attacking 35 though while Ramo Malone chipped in with 19. Rakesh Dyal snatched 2-7 from his maxium three overs while Rakesh Ramoutar also picked up two wickets but conceded 16 runs from three overs as well.
Mandolall was adjudged player-of-the-match for his impressive batting performance. He received a trophy while both teams collected trophies.
Vice-President of the OMSCC, Canada-based Guyanese Hardat Ramcharran congratulated the winner and all five teams for their participation.
He also acknowledged the support of the sponsors and they were Trophy Stall of Canada and Guyana, Windies Restaurant and Norman Sue Bakery. He also thanked his fellow executives for their committed effort to help run the affairs of softball masters cricket.
The match was witnessed by a fair-sized crowd.
