Dear Editor,
The landmark, safe home – St Ann’s Orphanage – has closed its doors after 172 years of service. This is a serious loss and a deep sense of regret that the not easy decision was arrived at.
The Ursuline Sisters who administered the Orphanage must be congratulated and commended for a job well done for more than a century and a half.
While the decision to close was taking shape, one wonders if everything possible was done to keep this institution open and alive? An institution of this kind can’t just fold and fade away. Its purpose is much too valuable. It should be preserved.
Yours sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
